5k
It all began with this 5k, and we will continue to offer it for those interested in running the shorter distance as well as those looking to hike the course.

In 2024 will saw two changes for the 5k. The 5k is now labeled a "fun run". There are no official timed results. There will still be a First place staff, and top 3 finisher awards, as well as general finisher awards. Also, the 5k start will be at 11:00 am. 5k runners will need to be very aware of other distance's runners coming "inbound", or towards the Finish Line, on the trail.

The 5k takes place primarily on the Historic Brule Portage Trail which has was first used as a connecting route between the St. Croix River and the Brule River by Native Americans. Early voyageurs also used the trail for the same purposes. Along the trail are memorial stones for some of the explorers who traveled this trail, dating back to the 1600's.

All race distances start and finish at Palmer's Landing. The 5k course is an out and back route, which does contain a short spur (50 yards) off of the North Country Trail in order to facilitate the turnaround aid station.
