5k

2024 will be our 7th year offering the 5k distance.  It all began with this 5k, and we will continue to offer it for those interested in running the shorter distance as well as those looking to hike the course.

2024 will see two changes for the 5k.  The 5k will now be labeled a "fun run".  There will be no timed results.  There will still be a First place staff, and top 3 finisher awards, as well as general finisher awards. Also, the turnaround spot for the 5k will an "unmanned water table".  There will also be a bell to ring.  Get to the water table, ring the bell, turn around and run back to Palmer's.

The 5k takes place primarily on the Historic Brule Portage Trail which has was first used as a connecting route between the St. Croix River and the Brule River by Native Americans.  Early voyageurs also used the trail for the same purposes.  Along the trail are memorial stones for some of the explorers who traveled this trail, dating back to the 1600's.

All race distances start and finish at Palmer's Landing. The 5k course is an out and back route, which does contain a short spur (50 yards) off of the North Country Trail in order to facilitate the turnaround aid station.
